Furthermore, the explosion in health-care costs means that the consequences of forfeiting company health insurance are graver than ever. So even though incomes have risen over the past three decades, they fluctuate much more than they once did. Economists estimate that income volatility is about twice what it was in the early seventies.

Some of these changes make good business sense. But cumulatively they add up to what Jacob Hacker, a political scientist at Yale, calls “the great risk shift… workers are not being compensated with higher wages for taking on all this new risk. Real wages for the eighty per cent of Americans whom the government labels “production and nonsupervisory workers” have actually fallen since 2001…the average household income is only slightly above where it was in 1973.” Surowiecki, The New Yorker, 1/06

Labor Law: Interfaith Worker Justice

Can My Boss Do That?

Fix My Job–Help with job problems from WorkingAmerica

Worker Rights and Wages Policy Watch, EPI

Witness Wednesdays–Voices of the Unemployed, CEF

OECD Employment Outlook 2018

Does ‘right to work’ imperil the right to health?
