Kiesche, Seeking 8\/7\/26<\/a> <\/strong>U.S. nonfarm payrolls declined by 23K<\/strong> in July, missing the +88K consensus and erasing the 20K increase in June, according to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.\u00a0Even more jarring than the July reversal in jobs growth, revisions to the prior two months described a labor market that was significantly weaker than previously thought. June’s growth was scaled back by more than half from the initial print of 57K. May’s estimate was slashed to +63K from +129K.\u00a0<\/span>The unemployment rate, though, dropped as the labor force participation rate declined again. Unemployment slipped to 4.1% from 4.2% in June, lower than the 4.2% consensus.\u00a0The labor force participation rate ticked down to 61.4% vs. 61.5% prior.\u00a0“The unemployment rate fell for the wrong reasons,” said Heather Long, chief economist at Navy Federal Credit Union. “People continue to leave the labor force.
