Drawing upon an impressive array of research, the authors develop a powerful analysis of the impact of domestic and global economic restructuring on American workers, families and communities and propose a comprehensive program of JOBS FOR ALL as a solution to the many social, economic and environmental problems plaguing American society.

The program they outline, based upon a set of eleven principles, includes proposals for the creation of jobs; raising the minimum wage; making the workplace more compatible with family life and women’s economic achievement; improving the employment opportunities for disadvantaged groups; expanding workplace and civil rights; restoring the public infrastructure; strengthening public finance; ensuring corporate accountability, and furthering environmental protection.

While focused primarily on domestic policy, the program takes account of the need for an extension of its principles to the international arena. What is needed, they assert, is a global “New Deal” to improve the living standards of the world’s poor majority, within a framework that provides for worker and human rights and environmental protection.

In JOBS FOR ALL, the authors have developed a compelling economic, political and ethical case for full employment. They demonstrate that there is hardly a social problem that would not be reduced or made easier to solve with jobs at decent wages. Here is a program which can bring together everyone concerned about our social, economic and environmental future.

About the Authors

Sheila D.
