Total: 21.6 million (12.9% of the labor force)<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are 2.7\u00a0job-wanters\u00a0for each available job!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Employment Statistics: NJFAN Tells the Whole Story\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

The National Jobs for All Network\u2019s monthly Real Count analysis of government employment statistics is posted on the network\u2019s website at www.njac.org.\u00a0\u00a0Since its founding in 1994, the National Jobs for All Network (previously Coalition) has been \u201ctelling the whole story\u201d about unemployment.*<\/p>\n

Our founders recognized that the official unemployment\u00a0 rate reported monthly by the Labor Department leaves out more jobless and job short workers than it includes.\u00a0 To be counted as unemployed, one must work less than one hour a week in paid employment and be actively seeking employment..\u00a0 As the above figures show, more than half the unemployed or underemployed are left out of the official count. Consider the political consequences of this undercount\u2014of a problem perceived by the public as less than half as widespread as it really is.<\/p>\n
